A child’s first steps and words are really a milestone. When Vietnamese and Chinese children are able to say their names aloud and waddle away around the house independently, their parents draw up a road map that plans the future for their child: to play the violin, to learn another language, to attend Kumon, and to participate in a sport. Chapter 5 of Freakonomics, What Makes a Perfect Parent, raises the question, â€Å"how much do parents really matter?† This is a very interesting question with a number of different answers.
